HUGIN EXPERT A/S is a leading provider of advanced decision support software for building decision analysis and support solutions in areas where reasoning under uncertainty is needed.
The company was founded in 1989 by world-leading researchers in the field of graphical models based on Bayesian Network technology. The company is 100% Danish owned and is strategically located in Aalborg, Denmark, home to Aalborg University and the world’s largest Bayesian Network research cluster.
The origins of HUGIN can be traced back to the “boom” years of artificial intelligence in the eighties, more precisely to the Esprit project MUNIN to create an expert system to help doctors diagnose muscle and nerve diseases. The MUNIN project ran from 1984-1989 at Aalborg University and received critical acclaim at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 1989, and when researcher Steffen L. Lauritzen from Aalborg University together with Dr. David Spiegelhalter were awarded ”Outstanding Statistical Application” from the American Statistical Society the same year , project researchers decided to commercialize the technology and established HUGIN Expert.
HUGIN continues to collaborate closely with Aalborg University, and with academic institutions and commercial organizations in EU-funded research and development projects. Multi-partner R&D collaboration ensures the continual development of our core software product and also ensures HUGIN client applications are cutting edge and in sync with the latest advances in Bayesian network technology.
Today, Fortune 500 companies, small and medium-sized businesses, government agencies, academic institutions and leading R & D departments all over the world use HUGIN software analytics to transform data, research and expertise into intelligent decision management solutions for diagnosis and prediction, fraud detection, credit risk assessment, anti-money laundering, operational risk management, food safety, troubleshooting and safety assessment, forensic identification and more.
